Not only do they have to pitch less innings because of relief pitchers and closers, they also have access to advanced recuperation methods that players in the past didn’t have. This means that hitters are constantly facing fresh pitchers. The pitchers also know exactly where a player likes the pitch to be thrown for them to hit it. This helps them stay away from that part of the plate making it harder to hit their pitching.
